Nefalde

So SySy Chapman IMs me the other day and asks “was it you who said you like vintage fashions?” and I was like…”ummm I don’t think I said that. I mean, I DO like them” and then SySy said “no, I’m sure it was you” so I was like “oh okay, you’re probably right.”

I know, really dramatic.

So, right, I’ll never write the great American play or anything… but I think the above is really actually pretty interesting.

Time in Second Life is kind of like dog years. An hour is a day is a week is a month is a year and all that. Look at what you were wearing a couple years ago; it might not be out of style exactly but maybe it’s a different style than what you have now. Maybe you were wearing more t-shirts with band names on it. Maybe your hair was shorter. Maybe that skirt you used to put on to get drinks from boys at the bar is just, well… not something you wear so much. Wait ten years, wait twenty and you’ll probably be laughing at your own pictures like you did your parents old high school yearbook. Now, think about the dog year timeline that is Second Life. We’ve got a LOT of opportunities to play with our looks or find new designers. Favorite skins can change, fabrics can look better or worse to you, cuts go up or down with trends and your mood.

I know my personal look has changed… maybe not my approach to style necessarily but definitely the accessories are a little different than they were a while ago. It’s pretty simple really, new designers pop up and maybe you get all worked up about something they did. Changes can be subtle or dramatic. Maybe you made the move from rockabilly chick to goth girl… then maybe morphed into a lolita-esque pixie and then evolved into a punk-boho-glamazon. It doesn’t even have to be a total makeover… I mean, there’s you and then there’s what you wear.

So vintage? Yah, I was there. I checked my inventory. There are actually items in there with ‘vintage’ right in the title. SySy was right… I do.

Anyway, if you know me you know I don’t get all dressed up too often. Maybe if someone invited me someplace NICE I might! That’s a different story though. Honestly, I do have some very nice glammy outfits in my virtual closet too; not easy for me to shop for though, so many ‘upscale’ shops in SL are a little too ‘red carpet’ for me. I mean, nice is nice, but, well… I think there is a difference between glam and glamorous.

Now SySy’s… well, for her I make an exception. SySy Chapman has been making very classy yet still accessible fashion for a while now, and I think distinguishes herself by not just copying the same dress over and over, but actually designing interesting looks that I think match RL trends pretty accurately. It’s glam without being tacky; you don’t buy the wedding dress at SySy’s, you buy the dress that makes the bride look gauche (YES, I used gauche in a sentence. I believe that’s worth a few points.) Oh, and the whole vintage thing? Well that’s because SySy let me play with her new Nefalde vintage dresses. Nice!

Nefalde is something that you might still see on the red carpet, but instead of J-Lo it would be probably Rose MacGowan. It’s a stylish, well made dress, and I always love to see that some designers are not afraid to keep using the dreaded system skirt in their work.

It’s a really nice addition to her already huge selection of classic, glamorous designs and definitely worth your time.
