This morning, news spread across the internet, television, news papers across Holland about FIRST FUSION – the simultaneous real-world, Second Life fashion which was hosted last night by the Ewing Fashion Agency at the First Meta Sim – who were also the main event sponsors. The sim packed out with SL fashionistas who clamoured to be part of this ground-breaking event! FIRST FUSION showcased the designs of real-world Amsterdam-based fashion designer Jennifer Delano, whose creative pieces featured items from around the world during the seasons. The team of SL designers who made it possible include the likes of Nicky Ree, Sysy Chapman, Indira Bekkers and Aphrodite Outlander, all of whom are well-known and recognised designers in Second Life, all of whom are dutch.

Just a few hours before First Fusion starts, the event area is ready. This time we did not make the runway ourself, but it was done by our head sponsor First Meta.

I asked Joy Laperierre a few questions about the work thay have done the last week to make First Fusion unforgetable.

Can you give a short introduction of First Meta and what First Meta does?

Joy: First Meta is the first real financial service provider for virtual economies positioned to be a bank and more. First Meta is the 1st to provide full suite of financial products and services, denominated in virtual currencies, to Second Life and other virtual economies. The company’s first product, the MetaCard a Linden Dollar – denominated credit card was launched on 31-July 2007. We are a real-world company, registered in Singapore, one of the financial centers of the world. Firt Meta’s operations are supported by the Singapore goverment and we are funded by real-world private investors, not by our customer’s deposits.

What inspired you for building this event area?

Joy: I have to say, First Fusion is an unique event simulcasted from RL at Amsterdam’s fashionable De Balie located at Leidseplein. This inspired us to portray how Real World embraces Second Life

Why does First Meta wants to join First Fusion?

Joy: First Meta finds First Fusion an interesting event that could reach out to the masses with some help and also it has been a joy working with the amazing people behind the success of Ewing Fashion Agency

The normal 11th hour panic session preceded the event kick-off. I had left the texturing of the venue till the last minute. Amazing what a fab chic black marble texture can do. Guests walked a trail of red carpets and photo-op walls with logos featuring EFA, OnRez and First Meta logos. Then came into our themed Egyptian event hall. Guests were then greeted by beautiful bunny girls dressed by battered boudoir (Eloria Leshelle) and Szentasha Fashions (Jynne Salome). The show kicked off with a performance by a number of beautiful ballerinas and renditions of Swan Lake and then at 11AM, my platform descended.

My character for this event was an Egyptian princess, but I missed the male “slaves” I needed for my descent and since we had reached 98 high-ranking fashionistas before the start of the show and we were walking on the moon, I figured I would start without them. The script worked perfectly. Thanks to Jabba Aabye, except the chat and response lag of about two minutes presented a challenge few could dismiss. DJ Syriana streamed an arabesque tune called loving girl, which was perfect for the descent and opening of the show and dance – after which I changed into numerous colour variations of the the “Una” dress made by Simone Stern.

The turn out was simply AMAZING! Huds and tools had been taken off. It was either hair and clothes next, so after the sim crashed, the first thing we did was to get rid of the chairs – easier for the standing ovations, let say and it allowed us (some of use atleast) to keep our hair for the paparazzi within the crowd. A fantastic time was had by all and the three hour show was followed by a three hour party by Syriana Paine. Starr Singer with her amazing voice did join us for about 15 minutes, which was as also, an amazing pleasure! The event goodbag was sponsored by EarthStones (Abraxxa Anatine). Below is a run down of the presenters and winners and the event pictures by Tillie Ariantho.
