SWALLOWTAIL DESIGNS

What started as a trend has become a grandoise movement towards fashion and jewelry… eco friendly. Some manufacturers may be letting you know that the ring or bracelet you are buying may have come from mining operations that limit the amout of harm to the environment and that the packaging may be biodegrable. Designers are using natural elements in their creations and becoming more in tune with our environment. Natsuka Paravane of Swallowtail Designs is one of them. She has taken these elements of natural beauty and created a line to put us at one with Mother Nature. Natsuko Paravane, a transplant from Japan, now living in Canada has brought her love of nature and it’s beauty and her real life passion into Second Life. With a background in graphic design, she jumped right into designing rich, vibrant, one of a kind pieces any woman would be proud to wear.

JCNY

JD Hansen

This week I am so proud to be writing about one of the absolute best jewelry designers in Second Life.  I have stated before, that when I first came into Second Life, I wanted to find high quality fashion in all fields.  At first it was very hard and as all new people who come to this marvelous world, I was clueless as to where I could find all that I was looking for.  I’m still not sure how I found JCNY, but I can still remember how I felt, when I first walked into the store.

I felt as if I could not get enough of it.  The store was full of beautiful clothing, shoes, diamonds, jewels and all committed to superb craftsmanship.  I am also impressed with the professional manner in which they handle all of their customers.  I made an incorrect purchase once.  I contacted JD Hansen and she made everything right with me in absolute record time.  While this was going on, I happened to be able to talk to her just a little and she was mentioning about how long it takes to design her jewelry.  That her team sometimes work on one piece for weeks to get it just right.  That nothing is released until it is meticulous in every aspect.  I bought the Mariner World Time Zone Watch for my partner, Dolphin Robson as a gift for Christmas.  It is his favorite piece of jewelry.  When looking at it up close, it replicates a real world watch explicitly.  From a distance the quality is still discernable.  There is nothing like fine craftsmanship as far as I am concerned or anyone else for that manner.  I would also like to thank JD Hansen, for giving this absolutely breathtaking jewelry at such affordable prices.  When you think of the time and expense that has gone into developing any of her creations, it is beyond me, how the price still comes in so reasonable.

MARINER WATCH

At JCNY you will also find The Vault.  Inside the vault you will find the Limited Editions.  With such exquisite designs as the Genesis and Nova Collections.  Which are pictured below.  Now these two pieces have had only 30 of each made and they have sold through half of each.  Any man wanting to give the ultimate gift to his woman, well here it is.

:: Genesis :: Eternia Engagement Band

When I was first asked to write for the blog, I thought I would tackle one of the issues I had the hardest time with in fashion – finding the right accessories – mainly jewelry. I first stumbled upon Ryker Beck on Flickr. Ryker’s photographs quickly stood out in both their quality and creativity. I’m always on the lookout for nice pieces of jewelry, so when I found out she had a jewelry store, called :: Genesis :: , I promptly tped over. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed…I got that giddy feeling we all get when we’ve hit paydirt. The first thing that struck me was that the quality workmanship and attention to detail she instills in her photographs, reflected in her jewelry making abilities as well. The second thing that struck me, other than how reasonable the prices were, was the variety – from casual to formal. I’ll be highlting a few of her items:

First off, Genesis has a NEW release this week….the Eternia Engagement Band. Its not only an engagement band, but has the wedding band as well. Two for one! It has a nifty script in it where you touch anywhere on the ring and a menu will appear. During the engagment, just choose “Hide Band.” After the weddding, you can choose “Show Band” to display the wedding band.

Featuring

Swanilda Gown and Akoya Pearls

Last week I had the distinct opportunity to interview both Mami Jewell and edo Tone of Styles of edo.  Collectively they have released two stunning creations, the Swanilda Gown by Mami and the Akaya Pearls by edo.  The release date for both was November 8, 2008.  As we know both of these designers are centered towards bringing to our second life fashion experience, a true taste of excellence.

The beautiful Swanilda Gown was inspired by the ballet Copellia, which was written over 200 years ago.  Copellia is a life like doll and Swanilda is a young woman.  Mami had originally designed the Copellia Dress, which is a shorter version of the long and flowing Swanilda.

The Akoya Pearls, were an inspiration to edo, by him admiring these old pearls and learning the history of them.  It was then his desire to reproduce these exquisite pearls for our use in second life.  Reproduce he has done in life like sense.

I will run a brief history of each design, just prior to the pictures.

Coppelia is an adaptation of “The Sandman,” a story written by the German Romanticist, E.T.A. Hoffman, almost 200 years ago. The ballet, with music by Leo Delibes, first performed over 100 years ago in Paris, was choreographed by Arthur Saint-Leon, ballet master of the Paris Opera at the time.
